Yocan Pocket Mini Feels More Like a Refined Pocket Than Just a Smaller One

Post by Michelle »

I’ve been using the Yocan Pocket Mini for about a week, and after previously trying the original Pocket, I was curious to see what actually changed besides the smaller size.
The first thing I noticed is that “Mini” doesn’t mean dramatically smaller. It feels more like Yocan took the original Pocket and refined the design rather than simply shrinking everything down.
One of the changes I like most is the ceramic airpath in the mouthpiece. The original Pocket used much more silicone in the vapor path, while the Mini adds ceramic through most of that pathway. In my experience, this gives it a cleaner feel and lets more of the flavor come through.
The charging port has also been moved to the side instead of underneath the device. It sounds minor, but it means the Pocket Mini can actually sit upright while charging, and the rubber base feels much more useful.
The front LED bar is another improvement. On the original Pocket, it was mostly visual, but on the Mini it changes color depending on the temperature setting, so it actually gives you useful information while you’re using the device.
Temperature can be adjusted from 400°F to 580°F, and the Mini changes temperature in 5-degree increments. There’s still only one control button, so you occasionally have to cycle through settings, but the 5-degree steps make it less annoying than adjusting one degree at a time.
Heat-up is also quick. In the video test, it took only several seconds to reach temperature. The standard session is around 30 seconds, but you can adjust the session length depending on how you prefer to use it.
The Pocket Mini comes with the Cloud 2.1 chamber. Compared with the older chamber, it’s deeper, which helps reduce the chance of concentrate spilling over the sides. During the week of testing, I didn’t run into the overflow issue I occasionally experienced with the original Pocket.
Yocan also offers the Cloud 3.1 as a compatible option. The 2.1 is better matched to the Pocket Mini’s compact design and heat-transfer requirements, while the 3.1 has a full ceramic construction and is more focused on flavor. So it’s less about one being “better” and more about what kind of experience you prefer.
There are still a few things I’d like to see improved.
The ceramic section in the mouthpiece can become harder to remove once reclaim builds up, so cleaning may take a little extra effort. The device can also get noticeably warm if you run multiple sessions back-to-back.
And while the Pocket Mini itself is portable, you still need to carry concentrate, a dab tool and Q-tips separately. I’d love to see Yocan make some kind of travel accessory that keeps everything together.
Another thing I learned quickly: don’t overfill the chamber. A larger dab doesn’t necessarily mean a better session, and if you load too much, you can end up leaving a puddle behind and wasting material.
At around $70, though, the Pocket Mini feels like a noticeable refinement of the original Pocket rather than just a smaller version. The ceramic airpath, deeper chamber, useful LED indicator and improved charging-port placement are all relatively simple changes, but together they make the device feel more polished.
For anyone who has used the original Pocket, I’d be interested to know which change matters most to you: the ceramic airpath, Cloud 2.1 chamber, smaller body, or the improved controls?
